2024 Mock Trial Regional Champions

Goddard High School Wins Regionals in Mock Trials (Novice Division)

Here is a basic summary of what Mock Trial is:

Mock trial challenges high school students to argue a simulated legal dispute in a real courtroom. It begins in the Fall, around Thanksgiving Break, when competitors receive their case materials (witness statements, evidence exhibits, applicable case law, and court stipulations).

Students compete in teams of six, with three playing attorneys and three playing witnesses. There are four rounds of competition, and each round is presided over by a sitting judge. Rounds are scored by a panel of active legal professionals.

This activity helps students strategize. To be successful, they must practice useful questioning, critical thinking, small group cooperation, and oral communication skills. They also need to develop a working understanding of courtroom procedurals. It’s a great way to get a firsthand look at a career in litigation!
