Christian Zimmerman

Few people receive a nomination to one of the U.S. Military’s service academies. One of this year’s GHS graduates can now claim that honor. GHS senior, Christian Zimmerman has been nominated to attend the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Co. U.S. Senators, Roger Marshall and Ron Estes both sent in nominations for Zimmerman.

The Cheney Times-Sentinel quoted Sen. Marshal saying, “It’s a privilege and an honor to nominate these young men and women to our nation’s esteemed military service academies. As a veteran myself, I commend their commitment to leadership, service, and duty. Their willingness to serve their country is inspiring and represents the best of our next generation.”

Zimmerman said the process for application took about 4 weeks to complete and included physical testing, academic testing and interviews. “It’s been a long process,” said Zimmerman, “but I look forward to joining the military as an officer.” With an interest in the military for five to seven years, Zimmerman would like to focus on aerospace or mechanical engineering. He said he would like to have a career in the Air Force, eventually making his way back to Wichita. After serving, “I’d like to come back home.”
