As summer learning comes to a close, Brandy Lane, Middle School CHAMPS Camp Teacher, described her experience impacting students, "Goddard is focused on preparing all students for lifelong success.  Innovation in education never stops, and CHAMPS Camp allows educators an opportunity to take kids that want to learn and improve to the next level. I love being a part of something great."

The gains students make are measured, too. Dr. Julie Cannizzo, Assistant Superintendent of Academic Affairs, stated, "We've seen students improve their reading speed by 30-40 words-per-minute, and over 90% of the participants increased their words per minute and accuracy by the end of the three-week program. Students have a goal and understand what they need to do to reach it. The relationships and connections between the teachers and students are the inspiration needed to reach their goals. They want to do what it takes to achieve it and the success is evident in the results."

Anyesha Robinson, a 7th grade CHAMPS Camp participant, reflected on her experience, saying, "I want to be with my friends, learn, and improve every day. I've discovered new ways to learn, become a better reader, and find new books I enjoy to read. When I completed the final assessment, I was excited to see I actually improved my speed and accuracy.  I want to thank my teachers for taking time out of their summer breaks to help us learn. I would also encourage future students who might be hesitant to participate. You might be nervous at first, but you'll meet new friends and awesome teachers. You'll improve, and it will be great!"

CHAMPSStudents and staff alike enjoy how this programming helps advance reading and math skills. More targeted skill-building activities, in an innovative learning environment, helps students at all levels maximize their opportunities to surpass the status quo and pursue excellence. The dedication and care from Goddard educators, families and students is what summer learning so successful each year. THANK YOU to the 100+ educators and approximately 1,700 students who participate in USD 265's summertime academic programs. We can't wait to see you next year!!
