Goddard Virtual School students had the opportunity to participate in Reality U which provided a glimpse into their live as a 26-year-old. Prior to the event, each student created a unique profile which determined his/her monthly income as well as marital and family status.
The students utilized their Reality U passports make purchases at 12 booths. These purchased provided opportunities to learn how each decision impacted monthly finances. A few students had to take on additional jobs just to keep their check registers from falling below zero! Other students traded in cars or chose a different housing option in order to meet their families' monthly needs.
Senior Hannah Baumgartner was one of the 11 GVS students who participated. "Reality U was an incredible learning experience that simulated what real life would look like. I learned thing like how fostering a higher GPS opened up more professions for my Reality U profile, how expensive child care truly is, and how important money is. Reality U was a great reality check. I truly believe my Reality U experience has taught me valuable life lessons," stated Baumgartner.
In addition to Patrick Sehl and the Reality U staff who help facilitate this event, GVS would like to acknowledge the volunteers who worked the 12 booths as well as USD 265 who provided the funding for Reality U.
