"School bus drivers are the people who transport children to their future."
Please join us in celebrating our amazing USD 265 Transportation team today - National School Bus Driver Appreciation Day! Our drivers are always the first to greet and welcome students in the morning and the last to see them and say goodbye at the day's end, and we are so grateful to each and every one of them for their service. Their tireless efforts are essential to the success of our schools. Did you know that over 25 million children climb aboard school buses every day in the United States?! Specifically, Kansas school bus drivers drove a combined total of over 85 million bus routes during the '22-23 school year and nearly 10 million miles for activity trips. These staff members serve as a direct link between our neighborhoods and classrooms and carry the most precious cargo - our students. THANK YOU to the entire Transportation crew, from the entire #265Family!

Congratulations to Colton Koenigs, Goddard High School, for receiving the District Attitude Award! His anonymous nominator wrote, “Colton is the very best of what we want all of our district employees to be; he chooses first to build relationships with each and every day, and it is his goal to brighten their day and encourage them with a smile! All of his students love him & trust him. The results speak for themselves because they know why he's there, and it's 100% for the outcome and NOT the income! He is an incredible beacon of joy and positivity!”

Congratulations to Rose Ann Valek, Explorer Elementary School, for receiving the District Attitude Award! Her nominator, April Karber, wrote, "Walt Whitman said, "Keep your face always toward the sunshine, and the shadows will fall behind you." Rose Ann Valek is someone who faces the sunshine! The two years I have worked with her have been a privilege! She is one of the most positive, hard-working, and hopeful people I have known. She is always up for helping with any project I come up with--many times spending a lot of time prepping and hanging 400 pieces of student work in the hallway-- and any idea that will help our students better find and access books. She is a wonderful listener, a calm presence when students need it, and a bright and creative colleague. She is very deserving of the attitude award!”

Congratulations to Joel Condray, for receiving the District Attitude Award! Joel exemplifies the essence of sportsmanship and dedication through their tireless efforts to instill values of teamwork, resilience, and integrity in our athletes. Their commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive environment has created a sense of camaraderie among team members, inspiring them to push their boundaries and strive for excellence both on and off the field. One of Joel's most remarkable attributes is their ability to motivate and uplift others, even in adversity. Whether celebrating victories or navigating challenges, they consistently maintain an optimistic outlook that is a beacon of encouragement for everyone under their guidance. His belief in each player's potential has contributed to our team's success and empowered our athletes to believe in themselves and their abilities."

The students of Apollo Elementary School enjoyed an extra special spring treat last week before taking off for the long weekend - an EGGstravaganza! Students enjoyed a photo booth, inflatables, a petting zoo, face painting, egg dying, chalk art, and of course an EGG HUNT! Thanks to all of the families and staff that came together to make this happen, and especially to Apollo PTO and all of the vendors involved! Each of our schools are special, and this is just one of the many events that make Goddard Public Schools a caring and connected community.
